Wednesday, November 30th, 2011 by Ashley Noel Hinton

I’m putting on a solo show with my quiz buddies Rose and the Wooden Hearts and Ulysses Wulf. Click on over to the Facebook event and let us know you’re coming. Thinking I might bust out the uke for this one.

Canadia Anniversary Day 4

Monday, October 10th, 2011 by Ashley Noel Hinton

Canadia Anniversary Day 4 poster - Wine Cellar, Friday 21 October

For the last three years on October 23 Canadia has graced the floor at Auckland’s Wine Cellar. There was a solo gig in 2008 (can’t remember who that was with), the Beg Steal and Burrow release in 2009, and a superb anniversary celebration in 2010.

Only, okay, so this year October 23 is a Sunday, which is just not going to work out too well for a gig, so we’re hosting Canadia Anniversary Day (Observed) this year on Friday October 21.

We’ve got Heartspells and Great North joining us, and it will be the debut show for our new guitarist Thomas Landon-Lane. He can really wail, guys! He had to take over when the might Blair Wayne moved to South Africa to become Ross Geller. Very proud we are of him! That’s Blair on the poster looking suave as all hell. I think that was the summer he worked on his music.

Get on down to the Facebook event, and we’ll see you at Wine Cellar on Friday October 21. First band on at 8pm.

Announcing another Wine Cellar thingo

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011 by Ashley Noel Hinton

Canadia got pretty friendly with Silke and Yule and the Telemetrics over New Years, so much so that we still talk. We remain friends! That’s saying a lot, really.  A lot of people who have spent time with me would not do that. They leave me alone with my slippers and my brans, and go to the skates park or the zoo.

BUT NOT TODAY, INTERNET. Today I announce that we’re all playing a gig at the Wine Cellar on Thursday 7th April, and it is going to be well biscuits. The first act is up at 8pm so that public transport fans will be able to get away in time for the last bus. If you try to play it safe and catch the second-last bus you might hurt our feelings.

Check in to the Facebook event or it didn’t happen.

Massive Wine Cellar/Whammy gig on Guy Fawkes’ Day

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010 by Ashley Noel Hinton

Lots of awesome bands - 5 Nov 2010

Guy Fawkes’ Day is the traditional time for us in the colonies to blow junk up for some reason that we all learnt in fourth form social studies but all forgot exactly why because OMG EXPLOSIONS. V for Very Nice!

Friday November 5th will see St Kevin’s Arcade bursting at the seams as Wine Cellar and Whammy fill with these kick-ass bands: NevernudesPopstrangers, Wilberforces, The Bemsha Swing, The Gladeyes, Matthew Crawley, Debutantes, Hold Dear, and Spirit Ditch.

And us, of course! Canadia likes asplode, too!

It’s $15 for the whole thing. “So cheap!” you exclaim, and exclaim you should, but truer words were never etc. It’ll kick off around 8pm.

FYI: Some moron is going to try and set off fireworks in the arcade, I just know it. To this idiot I say: dude, that’ll set off the fire alarms and we’ll all end up outside and I hate that. Blow that shit up in the park! And let me know when you’re doing it cause I want to see some FLAMES.

RSVP on Facebook.

UPDATE: Popstrangers had to pull out. They will be replaced by the rad-as Nevernudes.

Canadia anniversary day at Wine Cellar

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010 by Ashley Noel Hinton

Canadia anniversary day 2010

On Saturday 23 October Canadia turns a big one years old. Sure, there was some messing about back when it was just me, but pulling the name out occasionally and trying to convince Waverley from Shortland Street that I’m an antipodean Michael Stipe is not the same thing as having a functioning band.

2010 marks the third year in a row that I’ll play a show at the Wine Cellar, and we’re going to mark the occasion by inviting Hold Dear and Matthew Crawley along to entertain all of our butts. Bring your butts, they will not be disappointed!

Be at the Wine Cellar on Saturday 23 October from 8pm, and don’t forget to show us off to all of your friends on Facebook.

Auckland Zinefest after-party poster

Oh man late notice but you can still make it: Canadia is playing at Wine Cellar tonight for the Auckland Zinefest after-party. Also on the bill are Wilberforces, Mothers of Darkness, Ghost Wave, Hold Dear and The Literatti. The gig is free to get in, and will span both Wine Cellar and Whammy from 7pm.

It’s also not too late to hit the Auckland Zinefest in St Kevin’s Arcade until 4pm. See you at the after-after-party.

Gig with Mr Slackjaw and Bride of Pinbot at the Wine Cellar

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010 by Ashley Noel Hinton

Canadia, Mr Slackjaw and Bride of Pinbot poster

Last November we threw a little show at the Wine Cellar, which was actually our first show as a band. It was the release party for Beg Steal and Burrow, and our good friend Mr Slackjaw was going to join us in support. Things didn’t work out and Mr Slackjaw couldn’t play, but we never forgot that it was a great idea.

My point is: we’ve finally knitted our schedules together to put on a show on Saturday June 5. From the Facebook event page:

Promises were made, when Canadia and Mr Slackjaw were younger, promises of fidelity and rockingness. But life, o life! as it so often does had other plans for this lad and lass.

Spun out on some separate trip, they’re only just now getting pinned down at the party pit that is the Wine Cellar. Bride of Pinbot will serve as celebrant, and you’re all bridesmaids.

Excuse me while I walk around and drink some more.

You may know Bride of Pinbot from these awesome teaser videos, or you may just know Bride of Pinbot. I ain’t no scientist. I’m a dancer. I will see you on the science floor. Dance floor. Whatever.

We look this cool

Radcore skater and album photographer Hannah JV took some snaps on a Holga at the Beg Steal and Burrow release party, and I finally paid to get them developed. I can learn things! Check out the whole set on flickr.

The InvertsI’ve been ticking away on the mixing of Beg Steal and Burrow quite steadily, shunning the outside world and chewing holes in my cheeks as I try to mix without smoking. I know there’s never a good time to quit, but come on.

I will make it, that I promise. Careful observers will not that another show has been slipped into the schedule. Canadia is opening for Mahoney Harris as she releases an EP with the assistance of Hannah Curwood and Tom Healy on Thursday 8th October. It’s at the Wine Cellar from 8pm, and will be a solo Ashley performance.

And of course the long-awaited Canadia feat. Maggie Williams on being a laptop happens on Saturday 10th at Dogs Bollix, playing on the Inverts‘ release tour. I’ll finally take Maggie on stage with me to bash out some Canadia laptop classics, and (fingers crossed) a couple of new jams from the EP.

Five songs mixed, now. Sleep, work, mix the next. Byes.
